Summary

This article provides information about what Student Course Completion indicators are used for, and includes a list of the indicators to use in SDRs to describe a learner's course completion status.

Note: Prior to 2025, Student Course Completion indicators were called Course Completion codes.

What are the Student Course Completion indicators used for?

Student Course Completion indicators are used to inform TEC and the Ministry of Education (MoE) about a learner’s status at the time of the relevant SDR round.

A student is deemed to have successfully completed a course when they have met the requirements set out in the approved course outline.

Every learner reported in the SDR will need to have a Student Course Completion indicator entered in the Field Name 'COMPLETE', even if they are continuing study.

  • The 'COMPLETE' field provides the basis for monitoring and analysing achievement in tertiary education, along with 'Qualification Completion' data.
  • It allows important distinctions to be made in terms of success at the course level, compared with success at the qualification level.
