This article provides information on how micro-credentials should be reported in the SDR.
Do providers need to report micro-credentials in their SDR?
Micro-credentials that have been quality assured by NZQA or the University's Academic Board must be:
- entered in DXP Ngā Kete, and
- reported on in the Single Data Return (SDR).
Micro-credentials that have not been quality assured by NZQA or the University's Academic Board cannot be entered into DXP Ngā Kete and do not need to be reported in the SDR.
Do unfunded micro-credentials need to be entered in DXP Ngā Kete and reported in the SDR?
If a quality-assured micro-credential in showing in the provider's student management system (SMS) then it needs to be entered in DXP Ngā Kete and reported to us in the SDR (even if it is unfunded).
Which source of funding (SoF) codes do I use?
Use the relevant SoF codes from the following lists to report funded and unfunded learners enrolled in micro-credentials.
a. Report funded learners in accordance with the relevant SoF code for funded learners.
For 2026, the applicable SoF codes for funded learners are:
01 (DQ7+)
37 (DQ3-7)
29 (MPTT)
b. Report unfunded learners in accordance with the relevant SoF code for unfunded learners.
For 2026, the applicable SoF codes for unfunded learners are:
- 02 (international fee-paying students)
- 03 (domestic full fee-paying students)
- 31 (non-funded confirmed student enrolments)

How do I report learners if the micro-credential is offered as unfunded to all learners?
If a quality-assured micro-credential is offered as unfunded to all learners, report them as unfunded learners (ie, full fee-paying students).
For 2026, the applicable SoF codes are:
- 02 (international fee-paying students)
- 03 (domestic full fee-paying students)
