Summary
This article provides information on how schools can request additional funding (ie, for additional Gateway learner places) for the current or following school year.
General notes on additional funding
Additional funding for the same year
We generally offer an opportunity to apply for additional funding early in each school year.
If a school has more students wanting to do Gateway than their total funded places, they may place those additional learners on the programme and apply for additional funding during the in-year AFR round.
Note: We cannot guarantee that the additional funding will be approved.
Additional funding for the following year
We generally offer an opportunity to apply for additional funding for the following year, if a school expects their student interest in Gateway to be higher than we propose in their indicative allocation letter.
Details on additional funding for the following year are provided in the middle of the school year, and applications are usually due in late August.
For 2027:
- Schools will receive an email in early August 2026 (approx.) advising of the application process.
- At the same time, the application form will be made available on Gateway - Funding and Payments | TEC website.
Note: We cannot guarantee that additional funding will be approved.
